Sunday School Updates

We are coming to the end of our Summer Sunday School unit called Peace Works! And as we keep saying, it doesn’t do much good to just talk about peace. We need to do something to bring peace about. So that’s what we are doing! I hope your kids will join us for two important and fun Sundays…

This Sunday, August 29, we’ll help the Homelessness Taskforce assemble 100 Blessing Bags. Blessing Bags are full of small comforts, such as dry socks, a comb, toothbrush, shampoo, a mask, Band-Aids, a McDonald’s card, and a list of resources for shelters and support. These small comfort kits are meant for you to carry in your car. When you see someone in need, you have a way to respond with compassion in the moment. The hope is this small act of kindness will get someone through to the next moment of kindness. And we’ve found that it can also be an opportunity to stop and talk with someone to let them know you care. The kids will help distribute Blessing Bags to everyone as they leave church.

Then Sunday, September 5, send your child to Sunday School with a washed, white, cotton t-shirt because we will be tie-dying!!!! We’ll be making bright and bold shirts to remind us to be bright and bold peacemakers. And the rainbow colors will also remind us that we need to bring all our unique gifts from God together to make a bright, bold, and peaceful world. You supply the t-shirt, and we’ll supply the rest (including gloves and even “garbage bag” aprons). We suggest your child dresses for a bit of mess—but good mess with a good message.

And…know that we’ve decided that the outdoor fun will continue! We’ve written a new program with a focus on Creation to keep Outdoor Sunday School fun going through September. Hope your kids will be there!

P.S. We are looking for Sunday School leaders for the fall. Can you bring your heart and hands to this good work? It’s fun, shared in teams, works with your family’s schedule and in balance with time to worship, and comes with lots of support. No experience necessary. Just love. Talk with Carol Gilderoy or Pastor Karyn if you are interested or have questions.
