Social Groups
Social groups are a great way to bring people together, foster relationships, and create that all-important sense of belonging to a community. These small groups form around shared interests or age/stage of life, then new groups form when interests change. Following are current social groups for adults; Sunday school classes, service projects, and social activities meet similar needs of our children and youth.
AFG: AFG stands for “A _____ Group”, where the blank space can be filled with fun, fellowship, friendly, Fauntleroy, food, or even the “Anti-Freeze Group”. It’s for people who are 25-40ish years old. Singles, couples, married or not, members or not, no kids or kids. The group gathers for a monthly potluck or service project, conversation, laughter, and community building. Childcare is provided. New members welcome!
Crock Pots: Crock Pots is a fellowship group for 40-50 somethings, give or take a decade. Singles, couples, married or not, members or not, no kids or kids. The group gathers for a monthly potluck, conversation, laughter, and community building in the homes of members. New members welcome!
Crafters/Knitters: This group gathers on Zoom each Friday from 9:30-10:30am for fellowship, conversation, and crafting. The participants work on their own projects. New members welcome!
Men’s Fellowship Group: This is an open group, welcome to both regulars and newbies. The group meets every other week after Sunday service, typically in the lounge off of Fellowship Hall, from 11:30-12:30. It seeks to be a safe and open space for men to gather, speak, listen, and grow. The group is still in its early days, so come share your ideas for how we can use this space for the benefit of group members, the congregation, and the community.
Monday Lunch Bunch: This group of primarily retirees gathers for lunch at 11:30am on Mondays, rotating through a list of restaurants in West Seattle and Burien. Anyone from the church is welcome to join in for good food and conversation. Location details are shared via email or text. New members welcome!
Sojourners: This large group gathers 6-8 times a year to socialize and share a potluck meal. Most in the group are in their 60s and 70s, give or take a decade or two. The group meets in the homes of members. Attending Sojourners is a great way to get to know more people in the church. New members welcome!
Solo Seniors: This small group of “solo seniors” meet at the church on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 10AM. It brings together individuals who are primarily responsible for their own life maintenance, decision-making and care. Gatherings are in an atmosphere of fun, fellowship, confidentiality, and mutual respect. New members welcome!
Thursday Morning Sisters: This group of mostly retired women meets at the church on 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. They enjoy reading and discussing one book a month and having time for fellowship with each other. New members welcome!
Ukulele Band: The D.A.M. Ukulele Band, short for “The Duey Auringer Memorial Ukulele Band,” meets each Thursday at 6:15pm for an hour of joyful music-making before choir rehearsal. We currently have about 15 active members and play from our own songbook of favorite ukulele music. New members (even beginners) are welcome!
