Jessica Zimmerle of Earth Ministry will present an Advocacy 101 program, remotely, on November 18 from 7 to 8:30 PM. Jessica, program and outreach director, will offer an orientation into various options on how citizens can make a difference. The program is being sponsored by the Immigration Task Force, but the focus is not on refugees or any other specific topic. Jessica says that she likes to begin by posing the question. "What is our framework for advocacy as people of faith?" Her presentation is values based, meaning that she frames advocacy as something that we do out of our values and asks participants to reflect on their values as related to the issues they engage in. The effectiveness of letter writing, lobbying and other communication tools to reach those in a position to frame public policy will be reviewed and discussed.
Further details will be forthcoming. In the meantime, if you have questions, you can reach Dianne Sprague at dispraguew@gmail.com or Bob Wyss at bobwyss@gmail.com, co-chairs of the Immigration Task Force.
