"Reclaiming Advent" - Devotional for the Advent Season

Advent Devotional full size.png

The Worship Ministry is embarking on the creation of an Advent devotional written by YOU – all of the congregants of Fauntleroy Church UCC!

Every week through October, we'll publish a series of writing prompts designed to inspire you to share your thoughts and experiences. You'll find the prompts posted to our internal Facebook group and in the Congregator on our webpage. Pick a prompt (or more than one), find a quiet spot, and write. Your response can take any written form: short story, essay, letter, poem – be creative, and respond to as many of the prompts as speak to you. Every piece from every age will be a gift. A family could even write something together.

Once you've finished, e-mail your response to Hilary Reeves at hilary.j.reeves@gmail.com. Our plan is to assemble a physical devotional and make it available in November in time for the first day of Advent!

Prompts for the week of October 19:

  1. This is a very different Christmas. What are you missing? What are you hoping to find?

  2. “Emmanuel” means “God with us.” How is God with you this Christmas?

  3. Think of all the sights, sounds, tastes, textures of Christmas at your house. Can you turn those into a poem? A song? A drawing?
