Dear Families,
This week’s focus scripture is Exodus 12:1-14. In last week’s scripture Moses suddenly stumbled onto holy ground and encountered the fiery Spirit of God. And after trying and trying to argue, “God, you’ve called the wrong leader for this job of liberation!”, Moses gives in and follows God back to Egypt to go toe to toe with Pharaoh. But despite plague after plague, Pharaoh stubbornly refuses to free the Hebrew slaves even when his refusal causes pain for his whole nation. The tenth and final plague is still the tense turning point of this first part of the Exodus story when this three-thousand-year-old remembrance is shared at Passover.
In this week’s Sunday School at Home, I’ve invited you to create a Seder meal as you share the story. It takes time and preparation, but I’ve given you a link to a good resource for a Family Haggadah, a guide for a Seder. See what you think.
And speaking of special meals, remember, this Sunday is a Communion Sunday, so have your bread and grape juice ready at your end of Christ’s Table.
Finally—mark your calendar! September 13 will be a special, all-church ZOOM worship! No YouTube. If we were in the sanctuary, this would be the day we’d spill out into a grand picnic and start our full program year. We can’t quite picnic together yet, but we can worship as a whole wonderful community. Next week, look for a special link for Sept. 13, and we’ll spill out into our ZOOM boxes and see each other face to face as we worship.
I just noticed there are a lot of food references in this email this week! Reminds me of Psalm 34:8: “Taste and see that the LORD is good! Happy are those who take refuge in God!”
Hope you are happy today, Pastor Karyn
