Dear Lenten pilgrims,
Week Three of our Soup Supper Devotions had some fascinating table talk about table-turning moments in our own lives. We heard about Vietnam protests, advocacy for women’s reproductive rights, standing up for refugees when borders were closing down, nonviolent protests that took a dangerous turn when police escalated actions against the crowd…We talked about how these events have added layers of meaning to our lives, and about how our memories are the wisdom we carry forward to create the future.
We also talked about how we infuse the ordinary with meaning. For example, I was thinking about the way Sound Foundation builds tiny houses and makes a “home.” They believe a nail is more than a nail: it’s the tie that binds a safe space together. And did you know that behind every wall and even beneath the floor boards, the builders write their prayers on the beams? Every tiny home is infused with blessing. I have to believe those blessings will also be carried forward into someone’s future whether they know it or not.
How can we infuse other seemingly ordinary moments or even things with blessing? See the attachments for ways you might make an ordinary meal a different expression of communion. And then think about how you might extend that communion to others…
I’ll be away this week, but Leah will gather everyone together this Sunday night at 6PM. To get the link, you can go to this week’s Highlights or contact the church office. (Don’t forget that we turn our clocks forward this week!)
Peace on your Lenten journey,
Rev. Karyn Frazier
