Why an Adult Education Series on Mental Health?
You’re invited to join the Christian Education and Caring Ministries of Fauntleroy Church for a two-part series on Dec. 2 and Dec. 9, entitled “Mental Health 101.” These are tough and anxious times, but we can all play a role in living out our church’s mission to care for one another so things are a bit brighter and easier for everyone. That’s especially important now when we feel separated and sometimes isolated by the very steps that are meant to be caring and loving: keeping our distance, wearing masks, postponing travel, working and learning at home, and extending comfort from afar to those who are ailing! When we know that even in the best of times, 1 in 5 U.S. adults experiences mental illness, it’s not hard to imagine how these stressful times and limited contact have added to those numbers.
Let’s explore ways we can support those who are struggling with their mental health and those who care for them. Mental health topics can feel scary, carry stigma, and are often a taboo topic of discussion. But led by experienced facilitators from NAMI, we’ll begin to break down those barriers while we learn practical skills for companioning those who suffer, self-care, and we’ll create a safe space to explore potential misconceptions on the topic of mental health. We will also explore how mental health intersects with our other ministries and explore options for expanding our advocacy and ministry.
The church and wider community are welcome to participate in these important and timely ZOOM workshops on Dec 2 and Dec. 9 from 6:30 to 8:00PM. Contact our Office Manager, Jackie Gould, at Jackie@Fauntleroyucc.org for the ZOOM link.
