During the season of Lent, four small groups met weekly for five weeks of shared intentional relationship building, strengthening and deepening our roots with one another. We drummed together, we had meaningful conversations, we explored relationships with the help of the Enneagram, and we had adventures in a tabletop roleplaying game. Here’s what a few of our small group leaders had to say about their experiences:
"We had a great highly-creative group of kids and adults who decided that a rollicking space adventure was just the thing for the month of March. As their leader, I took particular delight in slipping in Lenten themes without the players' knowledge: forgiveness, fasting, and bringing light (literally) to a dying world. Among many other things, we also discovered that the Experimental Weapons Lab is, of course, next to the kitchen. I mean, where else would you put it?" - Lucian
“We did get in some pretty nice percussion grooves, which gave the newcomers an idea how the spirit or rhythm carries itself sometimes.” - Robb
“In the Lenten drumming class we explored the instruments and rhythms from Mother Africa. Students were introduced to several kinds of drums and a myriad of hand percussion instruments. Besides learning scripted parts we also participated in drumming "jams" after discussing proper etiquette. Everyone had a chance to learn technique on the different instruments with varying degrees of success, but everyone had fun!” – Jeff
“In the end we hoped everyone can now use the Enneagram as a tool when interacting with other and find compassion in even the hardest of situations. Suzanne [Stabile] says, ‘We can’t change how we see the world but we can always change what we do with what we see’. I hope the journey on ‘The Path Between Us’ has strengthened us as a church community. The Enneagram offers a life long journey of learning and I for one am glad to be on this path with my church sojourners.” - Gwendolyn
“It was gratifying to grow a special new friendship, to have such strong participation within the group, and to feel relationships deepen in community over the course of the five weeks. I know that my heart was opened by the experience.” – Donna
