CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRY COORDINATOR

 

Fauntleroy Church United Church of Christ, a progressive, open and affirming congregation in West Seattle, seeks a Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator. This is a flexible 15 hour per week position over a 12-month program year, and pays $18-20 per hour.

Job Summary

The Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator, working with the Christian Education Ministry and Associate Pastor, creates and delivers activities for children and youth that foster faith development and community. The position combines Sunday School support responsibilities, youth leadership assistance, and regular communication with families to facilitate and encourage participation in Christian Education programming and events.

Areas of Responsibility:

Sunday School Support

·       Collaborate with the Christian Education Ministry and Associate Pastor on curriculum selection for programs and special events.

·       Work with Christian Education Ministry members and church Volunteer Coordinator to support delivery of Sunday School Services, including:

o   Recruiting and training volunteers

o   Gathering and organizing Sunday School supplies

o   Providing day-of Sunday School support most Sundays, such as helping set up classrooms for Sunday morning lessons and checking in with classes throughout Sunday morning

o   Communicating with families about Sunday School activities

o   As needed, assist with special Sunday School gatherings, such as Children’s Chapel or Christmas  pageant preparation

Youth Leadership

·       Collaborate with the Christian Education Ministry and Senior Pastor to support the youth of the church

·       Help plan and lead some middle school/high school youth activities (e.g., Sunday School, fellowship, Sunday service projects)

·       Be a secondary leadership presence for a 3rd-5th grade group with potential growth into the primary lead

·       Provide occasional assistance with confirmation classes and activities when one of the pastors is absent

Communication and Network Building

·       Communicate regularly with families and youth about upcoming events in the Church and wider UCC Conference through social media, email, church blog, and newsletters

·       Spend time each week on encouragement and connection of families and volunteers via notecards, thank you notes, calls/texts, and other outreach

·       Occasionally join staff meetings and meet with the Associate Pastor or Christian Education Ministry for the purpose of planning and sharing resources

·       Help explore opportunities for youth fellowship and service with area churches

·       Knowledgeable about team building and group development

·       Maintains confidentiality and appropriate safe boundaries

Preferred Experience:

·       Creating and supporting youth and children’s programs

·       Designing activities for different ages and learning styles

·       Does not need to be a UCC member, but must strongly align with our values and beliefs as a progressive and open and affirming church

Additional Information:

Applicants must be at least 22 years of age. As required by law, background checks will be conducted on applicants selected for hire. This position reports directly to the Associate Pastor with executive supervision from the Senior Pastor who is head of staff. We recognize that there are many possibilities for this role in our church, and we anticipate that the work will be tailored to the time and talent of the individual who can help us meet the needs of our community. We also hope that this role will be expanded over time.

Please note:  Fauntleroy Church is exempt from contributing to federal and state unemployment insurance programs.  This means that church employees are ineligible for unemployment benefits related to their employment with the church at the ending of such employment.

Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination will be required before commencing employment.
