The Seattle Times a few days ago featured a story about the effort of Hector Martinez and Jolayne Houtz to have legislation passed in Olympia to stop hazing in our state colleges. Hector and Jolayne were very active members of Fauntleroy Church 15 years ago. Their son Sam, who died in a hazing incident at a WSU fraternity more than two years ago, was raised in our church.
Please take a few minutes and send notes to your state legislators urging them to pass SHB 1751 and HB 1758. The former is broader and requires colleges to educate students about hazing and imposes restrictions on fraternities and sororities. The latter defines hazing that causes bodily harm as a gross misdemeanor.
