Dear Friends,
Our focus scripture for this week is Deuteronomy 34:1-12. This week, Moses finds himself standing on a mountaintop, where God shows him the fullness of the promised land. Liberation seems to extend to the farthest corners of Moses’ universe. But God also tells Moses that he won’t be crossing over the Jordan River into that promise with his community. That honor will go to the next generation.
Can you imagine?! No milk and honey after 40 years of manna. No leisure to make up for all the discouragements, conflicts, and exhaustion. No champagne or grand speeches. Talk about a change in plans!
We know a little about that these days when everything seems like more of a trick than a treat. And yet, haven’t we also been learning that many of life’s changes offer the opportunity for some sweet creativity?…For example:
Coming Up
This Sunday, we’ll celebrate Children’s Sabbath, and four of our youth have offered to help lead readings. Please join us as they add their wonderful voices to worship.
This Sunday we’d love to have a Virtual Costume Parade
Send me pictures of you in your costumes or in your favorite pumpkin patches! You can send them to Karyn@fauntleroyucc.org and we’ll add some spooky music for a virtual Halloween parade. All ages (and creatures) invited to join the fun! Please try to get photos to me by Thursday so we have time to get everything ready for worship.
November 1st is our All Saints Day worship. Along with communion, we’ll take time in worship to remember those saints who have passed in this last year. If you have lost someone you love, you are invited to send a photo and a couple sentences we could share about your loved one to Karyn@fauntleroyucc.org. We’ll need photos by Wednesday, Oct. 28, so that we have time to prepare this special presentation for our prayer time.
Also…
Christmas Pageant filming has started, and it’s been such surprising fun! If your child wanted to be in the pageant but you haven’t scheduled your time with Bron yet, please reach out to her at sirensongbron@gmail.com or to Erick Bosquez at erickjbosquez@gmail.com
Advent Devotional: This year we are creating a special Advent Devotional with reflections from all of us. Watch for prompts from Hilary Reeves and then send in your story, poem, memory, favorite tradition, etc., and Hilary will put this gift together in time for Advent.
What a treat it is to be walking in community with you in these tricky times,
Pastor Karyn
