Dear Families,
This week’s focus scripture is Exodus 16: 2-15 (16- 28). In the scriptures, a wilderness journey is external and internal. It’s a mistake to think these different landscapes are disconnected. Changes in one often change the other. Step one on any wilderness journey usually involves putting our shoulders back, pulling out our old maps to orient ourselves, and stepping out. Step two is usually the moment we realize that the old maps don’t work anymore and start to grumble: Where do we fuel up? Eat and sleep? What happened to our cell service? Were we supposed to go left or right back at that cactus? It’s in this “step two time” that it is often tempting to want to turn around and go back to “normal”…but to what? and where is “normal”?
Something about this week’s story feels very familiar….
And speaking of journeys…
VIRTUAL CROPWALK, October 4-11th! Join Fauntleroy Church for a Virtual Crop Walk. A portion of the proceeds stays here in our communities at this critical time when our foodbanks are a lifeline for those whose lives have been turned upside down by COVID.
This year, we are all on the same team, but you walk at a distance at a place of your choosing! Even around your own home or yard if you want! When you walk, remember to wear RED and share your pictures at https://www.facebook.com/FauntleroyChurchUCC !
Register or donate today at https://www.crophungerwalk.org/seattlewa/FauntleroyUCC . Can’t walk Oct. 4th – 11th ? Sponsor our team! Help us reach our goal of $5,000. Online donations strongly preferred. If you cannot donate online, contact Nancy Olson through the church email, jackie@fauntleroyucc.org and she’ll help you out.
Glad my life’s journey and yours are following the same good road. Such faithful company!
Pastor Karyn

P.S. Last Sunday I mentioned that an old midrash says that when ordinary, awesome people step out together in faith, amazing things happen. Well, I’ve attached a gift to remind you that YOU are one of those awesome people. Print it off and tape it on your bathroom mirror so you don’t forget.
