Dear Friends,
This week’s focus scripture is Exodus 14:19-31. Last week, Pharaoh stubbornly refused to free the Hebrew slaves, which had catastrophic consequences for every household and for creation, itself! When we pick up this ancient story again, the Hebrew people find themselves on the edge of liberation—in that middle place between the danger they know and the unknown ahead. Even though God has conspicuously surrounded the people with protection, they still can’t quite see where to put their feet next. They still aren’t sure they can trust the freedom road they are walking on.
What do we do when we want to have faith but instead we have the sinking feeling there is nothing ahead but troubles? The answer seems to be: Do the next faithful thing. Take the next faithful step. Don’t just stand there stuck in the mud--wade in the water!
You might also wade into these things while you’re at it….
Special worship this Sunday! An all-church-on-ZOOM worship! No YouTube. If we were in the sanctuary, we’d spill out into a grand picnic after worship. We can’t quite picnic yet, but we can worship as a whole wonderful community to start our program year. Check your highlights for the special link for this Sunday.
Backpack Blessing! is….not really as meaningful right now either, BUT what about a Laptop Blessing?! You’ll be on ZOOM this Sunday anyway, so gather your gadgets and we’ll remember students, teachers, parents and celebrate the ways we are learning and connecting together.
Service project invitation: Jan Campbell and Joan Gregory invite you to help them with a timely and EASY service project. They have 175 postcards to send out to remind people to vote. The postcards include a simple nonpartisan message and addresses for you to copy, and Jan and Joan will provide the stamps. All ages invited to help us get these ready to mail by October. Really anyone, any age can help as long as you have legible handwriting--that’s the only requirement. Want to do 1 or 5 or 10? Contact Jan at jancampbell46@gmail.com and she’ll tell you how to get your cards.
See you in church (on ZOOM)! Pastor Karyn
