Together in Spirit During COVID
Since shortly after the governor’s stay-at-home order, a task force has been assessing what steps we need to take in order to regather in person as Fauntleroy Church. This process has had many challenges, not the least of which is still-emerging information about the coronavirus and the COVID-19 it causes.
Recognizing the breadth of factors to be considered and safety concerns expressed in a survey of the congregation, we will not be regathering for worship in the sanctuary or for in-person group activities before at least January 1, 2021.
Not being together physically during Advent and Christmas will be especially hard. We are imagining a stress-free season of making the sacred visible through common at-home activities, daily devotionals, and the sharing of warm memories. We also hope to have our fully decorated sanctuary open on a shift basis for a vigil on Christmas Eve and perhaps on the winter solstice as well. Imagine being still as we anticipate the Divine incarnate!
As different as online worship and gatherings may feel, we bless one another when we make the effort to be Church in such new ways. Our community is committed to living into our covenant with one another by not hitting the “pause” button. Our bonds remain strong, knowing that we are the hands, feet, minds, and hearts of God, no matter what.
Blessings, peace, and wholeness,
Pastor Leah
