| The big Christian holidays of Christmas and Easter are the focus of many special celebrations at Fauntleroy Church. We kick off Advent, the four-week season before Christmas, with an Advent festival during which we make things for our homes that will remind us of the miracle and meaning of Jesus’ birth. During this time leading up to Christmas, we often have a class on a suitable topic of the season or on ways to cope with the stress of so many things to do. We also have a carol-singing party, a special choir concert, a Christmas tea, a special "giving tree" to aid less-fortunate children in our local schools, and who knows what else! Christmas Eve, with three distinctive services, is the most attended night in the life of our church. It is also one of the most joyous and beautiful. During Lent, the 40-day preparation time
before Easter, we usually have a special adult-education offering to foster
spiritual growth. A special worship service on Ash Wednesday starts the
season and events of Holy Week (including a Seder meal, Maunday Thursday
service, and prayer vigil) conclude it. We greet Easter with three worship
services, lots of music, a hearty breakfast, and time to be awed by the
power of Christ’s love and message. |
